The guy who really, really likes Hitchcock. You either love him, or hate him. What's your favourite De Palma movie(s)?

A bit difficult to chose, because there's too kinds of De Palma movies... his operatic, Hitchcock pastiches and his more straightforward, yet still distinguished director for hire work. Out of his Hitchcockian thrillers : I'd say Dressed to Kill is his most acomplished (though I have a big soft spot for Body Double, aswell) Of his more "mainstream" films : The Untouchables (though Scarface has become a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine over the years). One thing is for certain... there's not enough of his films on Blu-Ray.

I've always found Scarface MASSIVELY overrated .. I honestly much prefer Carlitos way.
Its awesome and if you don't think so I'll send Benny Blanco from the Bronx after you. Love Untouchables too .. Least fave that I've seen? Redacted probably.

In all honesty, Carlito's Way IS a better film than Scarface, but like I said, I find it to be a guilty pleasure. The first time I ever saw it I hated it, because Tony Montana is such an unlikable tool. Once you except that it is a condemnation of those kind of trashy, spiritually unfullfilling, over-indulgent lifestyles, it eventually has some kind of weird hold on you. It depresses me, whenever I hear some rapper talk about about how it "changed their life", though. Was very disapointed with Redacted, though anything that pisses off the American Neo-cons for no sensible reason is okay in my book.

Blow Out is probably my favourite, great performance by John Travolta, great villain in John Lithgow and Nancy Allen is good too, Also love Carlitos Way and Scarface. Dressed to Kill is good fun too. I would definitely consider myself a fan.

His Hitchcock "homages" (cough rip-offs) are painful to watch. It's like he thought he was the only one who had seen a Hitchcock film and no one would notice. Scarface is one of the worst films ever made. My favourite would be The Untouchables for the cast, music and De Palma being somewhat restrained.

Another hand in the air for Carlito's Way. But what about Snake Eyes? You hear a lot of talk about Neo-Noir, which usually just means a modern film with fedora hats and venetian blind lighting effects, but De Palma really captures the pulp heartbeat of 50s B-Movies. Not the A Pictures like Maltese Falcon, but stuff like DOA and Detour, films made for a quick buck, but brimming with sex and violence and insanity. Carlito's Way is the same and makes for an amazing double bill with Snake Eyes. Trash cinema made with brains.

Blow Out is awesome. Raising Cain is amusing, largely due to John Lithgow.

Forgot about Blow Out, it is awesome ... I'm feeling the love for Carlito .. That pool scene "Here come da paiiin!!" is amazing.
Did you guys ever read that interview in Empire a lil' while back, in which Depalma came off like a complete childish cock? Like calling out the interviewer on Hitchcock (challenging him on his knowledge etc.) and getting all defensive?

De Palma has always come across as iracible and egocentric in interviews. On the new Criterion edition of Blow Out there is an interview between him and Noah Baumbach and he seems relatively relaxed in that, probably because they seem like friends off camera. I remember seeing a Mark Cousins Scene by Scene interview of De Palma on Youtube sometime ago (don't think its on there anymore), that was pretty awkward at times. Later on Cousins interviewed Kirk Douglas and when he brought up The Fury, Cousins quipped that De Palma is like "Kubrick without taste". That comparison really fits sometimes.

Just looked the original on IMDb. Sounds interesting, but I don't think I want to see De Palma adapt someone elses work after The Black Dahlia.

Alright, De Palma is currently working on a new erotic thriller, Passion, which will star Noomi Rapace. The screenplay is written by De Palma. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1829012/ http://www.angelfire.com/de/palma/blog/index.blog/1432339/additional-details-on-passion/ Pino Donaggio (who did the scores for De Palma's films, Carrie, Dressed To Kill, Blow Out, Body Double and Raising Cain) is set to compose to the score for De Palma's new film. http://www.angelfire.com/de/palma/blog/index.blog/1433046/donaggio-will-score-passion/

Jason Statham will star in Heat, a remake of the 1987 Burt Reynolds film that Brian De Palma will direct from a script by the great scribe William Goldman.

Watched that alternate cut of Raising Caine over weekend. It does actually improve the film a little bit, though to be fair to De Palma, it was probably easier for him to do that so they could market it as a John Lithgow vehicle. That film couldn't have been an easy sell. Never saw the Burt Reynolds Heat, but I can't see De Palma remaking it. Remember when his name was attached to Paranormal Activity 2?
